La Vélo maritime – Cycle along the Normandy coast
From the campsite Les Prairies de la Mer, you can reach Courseulles, Arromanches or a little further in the Channel, Cherbourg or the Mont-Saint-Michel thanks to the Vélo Maritime. This 1,500 km long itinerary will offer you a unique experience to discover the D-Day landing beaches or the mythical sites of Normandy. Lovers of gastronomy, cultural discovery and sports will be delighted. 100% continuous, stop when you want to admire the landscape, have your picnic break or snack and then turn back to the campsite on these secure and sometimes shared trails.
From Ouistreham to Caen by the Canal
Join the bike path that runs along the sea from the campsite and head towards Caen. You will pass by the port of Ouistreham where you can admire the magnificent lighthouse and the covered fish market. As you continue on your way, you will have no choice but to follow the trail along the canal, a real breath of fresh air full of calm and serenity! It will take you through Bénouville, this place full of history and its replica of the Pegasus Bridge that can be seen in the distance.
A few more kilometers and you’ll be in Caen, where many routes are available to safely walk around the city without having to worry about 4-wheelers. Each route will make you discover the smallest corners of the city, and the unmissable ones: the castle, the City Hall, the Prairie, the Ornano Stadium (of the Caen Malherbe soccer club), the city center, the Bird Hill and many others… A new way to visit the city that we invite you to try!
Cycling routes accessible to all for your family outings
There are large itineraries in the department but also smaller ones that can be done in one hour or half a day with the family. 17 loops have been created between sea and countryside. From Ouistreham to Merville-Franceville (15 km) by the canal, along the Orne estuary, or on the other side towards Douvres-la-Délivrande (14 km). You will walk along small country roads where the landscape is charmed by agricultural fields, far from the main roads for more safety.
